Arup Ratan Bhattacharya is an Indian author and poet, born in Kolkata. He has published several works of fiction and non-fiction in both Bengali and English.
Bhattacharya’s most famous books include “The Room on the Roof,” “The Silent Murders,” and “The Grey Ghost of Bishnupur.” “The Room on the Roof” is a coming-of-age novel that tells the story of a young boy named Rusty, who leaves his strict boarding school in Dehradun to live with an Indian family in the nearby town. The book won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in 1957 and helped to establish Bhattacharya as a prominent literary figure in India.
