Ajit Kumar Ghosh was a consultant physician in medicine for the elderly in Pontefract, Yorkshire. He was born in India.
His father’s name is Narendra Lal Ghosh, a civil engineer, and his mother’s name is Mridula Ghosh, a housewife. He was educated at Hamilton High English School and then went on to study medicine at Bihar University. He qualified for MB BS in 1961 and gained his MD in 1963.
He published papers on, among other topics, electrocardiographic changes associated with antidepressant medication, the cardiovascular effects of the tetracyclic antidepressant maprotiline, and the treatment of older hypertensive patients.
Outside medicine, he was interested in chess, classical music, and cookery.
In 1972 he married Susan Mary, an ex-nurse. They had two children.
