Jalandhar Sen was born on 13 March 1860. He was a Bengali writer, poet, editor and also philanthropist, traveler, social worker, educationist, and litterateur.
He was born in the Kumarkhali village of Nadia District (presently known as Kusthia District of Bangladesh) in a Dakshin-Rarhiya Kayastha family. His family originally hailed from Deganga, North 24 Parganas District of present-day West Bengal (India).
Jalandhar Sen wrote about 42 books, including novels, travelogues, social messages, books for children, and biographies. His books have always been greatly received making him very popular. He was awarded with a tittle of Ray Bahadur by the British government in 1929 for is contribution to Bengali literature and social reform.
