Killing Mission is the 469th instalment of Qazi Anwar Hussain’s long-running Masud Rana series, the spy-thriller franchise that has defined Bengali action fiction for more than half a century. First launched in 1966 by Sheba Prokashoni, the series follows Masud Rana, an agent of Bangladesh Counter Intelligence (BCI), through cases that span the world.
The Masud Rana books are loose adaptations and reimaginings of international thrillers — James Bond, Robert Ludlum, Frederick Forsyth, and many others — rewritten and localised for Bangladeshi readers, sometimes substantially transformed in the process. They have been the gateway into adult fiction for generations of Bengali boys, and Qazi Anwar Hussain’s brisk, cinematic prose still reads well decades later.
This entry, like the others late in the series, leans into modern action set-pieces and international intrigue. Read it for the same reason readers first picked up Masud Rana in the late sixties: it is fast, fun, and unapologetically a thrill-ride.
With honor of kazi Anwar hossain, I think masud Rana is the great character in the world not just Bangladesh. It’s my opinion. Always waiting for the next book.
