Author: Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh, born on March 30, 1853, in Zundert, Netherlands, and died on July 29, 1890, near Paris, France, was a Dutch painter. He is generally considered one of the greatest artists after Rembrandt van Rijn and one of the greatest Post-Impressionists. Van Gogh’s striking use of color, emphatic brushwork, and contoured forms powerfully influenced the current of Expressionism in modern art. His art became astoundingly popular after his death, especially in the late 20th century, when his work sold for record-breaking sums at auctions around the world and was featured in blockbuster touring exhibitions. Vincent van Gogh has also been mythologized in the popular imagination as a tortured artist, in part due to his extensive published letters. His notable works include “Portrait of Dr. Gachet,” “Starry Night over the Rhône,” “The Potato Eaters,” and “The Starry Night.” His legacy continues to inspire and captivate art enthusiasts worldwide.
