The Estimate of the Scottish Nobility During the Minority of James the Sixth is a sixteenth-century political document edited for the Grampian Club in 1873 by Charles Rogers (1825-1890), the Scottish antiquary who poured out editions of national records. The Estimate itself is a contemporary character-book of the Scottish lords during the troubled 1570s, when factions fought for control of the boy king James VI, and it sketches each nobleman’s power, religion, and reliability. Historians prize such documents for their unguarded frankness. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
