Afterparty

Daryl Gregory’s “Afterparty” takes place in Toronto after the revolution, a city where smart drugs are widely used. A homeless girl finds Numinous, a substance that modifies the brain and makes her feel closer to God. But catastrophe results from her detention and retreat. An ex-scientist named Lyda Rose, a cross between Neuromancer, Ubik, and Starfish, sets out on a surreal mission to preserve civilization or die trying.
