Emily McIntire’s “Crossed” is the sixth stand-alone novel in the “Never After” series. The narrative is a dark, modern love tale that draws inspiration from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. It centers on Amaya Paquette, a strange woman in Festivalé, Vermont, and Father Cade Frédéric a holy man with a secret darkness. Father Cade determines he will be Amaya’s downfall when he thinks she is luring him with witchcraft, even if it means murdering the only woman he may ever love. Because of its complex themes, this book may not be appropriate for all readers.
