Hilda van Stockum wrote just one fairy tale, “King Oberon’s Forest.” Three brother dwarfs, infamous for their short fuse and lack of kindness, are the focus of the tale. When they find and adopt a foundling child, their lives drastically change. Their lives are drastically altered by this incident, which also exposes a new aspect of them. First published in 1957 the book is chock-full of adventure wit and wisdom. It demonstrates a mystical element specific to van Stockum’s writing.
