“Inkspell” is the second book in the Inkheart series, a young adult fantasy novel by Cornelia Funke. The book was published in 2005 and named the 2006 Book Sense Book of the Year in the Children’s Literature category. The story follows Meggie, a 12-year-old girl who discovers that her father can bring fictional characters to life by reading aloud from books.
In this sequel, Dustfinger, a fire-eater brought into being from words, finds a crooked storyteller with the ability to read him back into the medieval world of his past. Distraught, Farid, Dustfinger’s young apprentice, goes in search of Meggie, and before long, both are caught inside the book, too.
