Richard Dutoit Carlson, born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, was an American actor, television and film director, and screenwriter. He majored in drama at the University of Minnesota, where he wrote and directed plays and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. After opening his own repertory theater in Saint Paul, Minnesota, he relocated to California and then New York for his stage career. He appeared in movies alongside Lana Turner and Ann Sheridan.
