Novelist Angela Meyer’s “A Superior Spectre” weaves together the lives of two protagonists from disparate times. Jeff, a dying man from the future, uses cutting-edge technology to get inside Leonora’s 1860s head. Jeff disobeys the suggestion to utilize the technology no more than three times as he struggles with his impulses and recollections.
A happy resident of the Scottish Highlands, Leonora is transferred to Edinburgh in the meantime, where she starts having weird visions. The novel explores the themes of ghosts that make a home in a person’s spirit and the perilous entitlement to curiosity.
