Carolyn Burke’s biography “Becoming Modern: The Life of Mina Loy” vividly depicts the avant-gardist. Loy, who was born in London to parents who were both Jewish and English, was active in the core groups of the global modernist movement. She was Djuna Barnes’ confidante, a friend of Gertrude Stein, a lover of Marinetti, and a co-conspirator with Marcel Duchamp. The life of Loy and her important contribution to modernism are examined in the book.
