Emma Hart’s “Dirty Secret” is a fascinating romantic book. Conner Burke was not prepared for Sofie Callahan’s return. It’s unclear where she’s been spending the last 2.5 years and why she left in the first place. Now though, she’s returned to Shelton Bay, South Carolina, the couple’s birthplace, while Conner’s band, Dirty B., is taking a vacation from touring. In the months following her father’s passing Sofie Callahan had kept her hometown off of her mind.

She has no choice but to go back and take care of her father’s estate because her brother is in Afghanistan even if it means telling the boy she fell in love with why she left. When Conner’s shattered heart and her guilty one intersect Sofie will have to start responding to his questions. They have a difficult present and an uncertain future. There’s only one thing for sure: Sofie’s daughter will make a huge difference.
