BOOK EXCERPT

Frankenstein, or, The Modern Prometheus is a classic Gothic novel and one of the first science fiction novels by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. It tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a living creature from dead body parts, but abandons it in horror. The creature, lonely and rejected, seeks revenge on his creator and his loved ones.

The novel explores themes such as the dangers of scientific hubris, the nature of life and death, and the responsibility of creators to their creations. The novel was first published in 1818, and revised by the author in 1831. It was inspired by a challenge among Shelley and her friends, including Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, to write a ghost story during a stormy night in Switzerland.
