The main character of the book is Portland Storm center Blake Kozlow, who has always been a free agent, especially when it comes to women. Blake, who is misunderstood by society meets Beatriz Castillo, a special education teacher, who has a true understanding of him.

After experiencing an uncontrollable decline in her health, Beatriz now utilizes her vibrant personality to inspire her children to believe that nothing can stop them.
