Ghost Species

There are different ways to interpret the term “ghost species”. One possible meaning is a type of ghost or spirit that belongs to a specific category, such as poltergeists, apparitions, or residual hauntings. Another possible meaning is a species of living or extinct organisms that is inferred from indirect evidence, such as DNA, fossils, or artifacts, but has not been directly observed or identified. In this sense, a ghost species can also be called a “cryptic species” or a “shadow species”.
