Bronwyn Green’s novella “Just Right” from the Northern Circle series is a gripping read. The main character of the story is an older bear shifter named Noah Makwa, who helps two adult cubs adjust to their shifts. His stress level rises with the arrival of Gwendolyn Locke, a new biologist. Because Noah meddled, Gwendolyn, who relocated to Parrish Falls, Michigan, to study black bears, hasn’t seen any.
She learns that shapeshifters exist as she confronts Noah and ends up stuck in the snow with three bear shifters. Their relationships are examined in the narrative, as is the possible danger that Gwendolyn’s research may pose to the existence of shape-shifters.
