Kitchen is the first novel by Banana Yoshimoto, a Japanese novelist that was published in 1988. English version was provided by Megan Backus in 1993. While there is much that is typically Yoshimoto Western in her literary style, “Kitchen” is indisputably a critic’s survey of contemporary Japanese literature.
