Locked In

Elizabeth Raines writes romantic suspense with a darker edge than many in the genre, and Locked In is built around a heroine who is trapped, one way or another, in a situation she didn’t choose. The man she ends up entangled with may be the way out, but she can’t tell at first whether he’s a rescuer or just another part of the trap.

Raines doesn’t rush the unraveling. The suspense and the romance build together, and the reveals land on a careful schedule.

The heat level is moderate. The violence stays mostly off-page but is present enough to give the book real stakes.

Readers who like Pamela Clare’s Cobra series or Cherise Sinclair’s quieter suspense work will find Raines comparable. Not the lightest read in the romance shelf, but readable and satisfying within its own register.
