Love Bites

Ellen Schreiber’s Vampire Kisses series was an early entry in the wave of YA paranormal romance that took off in the late 2000s, and Love Bites brings back the same protagonist, Raven Madison, the goth girl in a small town who has been chasing the vampire mythology for most of her life.

The plot pulls in some new characters who may or may not be vampires themselves, the high school stuff continues to be high school stuff, and Raven’s voice is the same loud, sarcastic, very 2008 narrator that fans of the series already know.

The books are short and quick. Each installment can be read in an afternoon.

For readers who want low-stakes paranormal YA and don’t mind that the writing leans more humor than horror, the series still holds up. Newcomers should start with the original Vampire Kisses rather than this volume.
