Colleen Nelson’s dystopian novel “Pulse Point” is set in a future in which climate change has rendered Earth uninhabitable. Domed cities that are self-sufficient are home to people who generate their energy. The City regulates the amount of energy its residents use by implanting microchips, known as pulse points, in each person’s finger.
When Kaia’s pulse point malfunctions, she feels liberated from the severe City regulations for the first time in her life. She begins to wonder what happens inside the City walls as a result, and she embarks on a quest to learn more about the world outside of them.
