The Last Duel

Eric Jager’s “The Last Duel” is a historical narrative that takes place in medieval France. It describes the spectacular trial of the battle between Jacques Le Gris, a squire, and knight Jean de Carrouges, who are both accused of raping Carrouges’ wife. Her fate is likewise determined by the result of the combat.
