The Oncoming Storm

Christopher G. Nuttall’s “The Oncoming Storm” takes place in 2420, amid a growing dispute between the two most potent empires in the galaxy, the protectionist Commonwealth and the despotic Theocracy. The protagonist of the tale is Katherine “Kat” Falcone, a young officer and aristocrat who, as a result of her father’s strong influence receives an early promotion.

Kat is assigned to command Lightning the newest destroyer in the Commonwealth fleet, despite her initial resistance. She learns that war is coming and that things are worse than expected in Cadiz an occupied outpost system, while she works to establish her value outside of her family’s name.
