Christopher Murphy’s LGBTQ thriller “The Other Side of the Mirror” is set in the unique setting of Portland. The main character, Jace Lannister, is a gay black guy and the son of the famed Brooklyn Butcher, a serial killer who killed nineteen people in the early 1990s before he was captured. Jace has succeeded in starting over far from his past filled with violence.
But when a horrific murder that is motivated by his father’s sinister legacy and echoes the past turns up, it shatters his whole world. The novel begs the question of whether history is set to repeat itself in the form of his kid, if the Brooklyn Butcher has made a comeback, or if something much darker is coming from the other side of the mirror.
