The book ‘The White Spider’ is written by Heinrich Harrer. In this classic of climbing literature, Harrer chronicles the history of mankind’s battle against the North Face of the Eiger, a mountain in the Swiss Alps. The Eiger’s North Face is a sheer drop, basely icy and rocky, constantly bombarded with avalanches. Harrer was a member of the four-man party that scaled this previously immaterial wall in 1938.
