Andrea Portes’s “This Is Not a Ghost Story” is a terrifying and confusing story. Before her first year of college, the main character, Daffodil Franklin, decides to have a calm summer and accepts a job housesitting a mansion. She discovers that the house is larger than it first seems as the summer goes on.
She feels as though the house is closing in on her, that eyes are following her the entire way, and that something is pulling her back. She has no idea that the house needs to make amends for a long-standing anger, and daffodil is the key to doing so. Fans of Danielle Vega and Madeleine Roux will love this novel.
