Under the Glacier

Halldór Laxness’s novel “Under the Glacier” is unique, natural and mysterious. In the first scene, the Icelandic Bishop dispatches a youthful envoy to look into certain charges made against the pastor at Snaefells Glacier, who doesn’t appear to be burying the dead. The story takes place in a town that considers itself to be the center of the universe, where creation is still happening.
