Alessandra Hazard’s third novel in the Straight Guys series is titled “Just a Bit Unhealthy.” The protagonists of the tale are Jared Sheldon, the team doctor, and Gabriel DuVal, a budding soccer player. They give the impression of being close friends to others, but the reality is more nuanced. Gabriel is unsure of their exact relationship. While some refer to their connection as dysfunctional, others call it codependency.

Although Gabriel is straight, has a girlfriend, and is in love with her, he is aware that Jared desires more from them than just friendship. He still feels a need for Jared’s strength and touch despite this. The book explores their twisted, gay-for-you connection, complete with sultry MM moments and a plot that transcends the bounds of friendship.
