Rajshekhar Basu’s Mahabharat is the standard Bengali prose retelling of the great Sanskrit epic, the one most Bengali readers grew up with. He cuts down the original carefully but keeps the soul of the story, the thousand small episodes that make up the larger war.

If you have wanted to read the Mahabharata but found the verse versions too long, this is the version to start with. The language is clear and the chapters are not too heavy.
