Terms of use

By using BDeBooks ("we", "us", "our", or "the Site") you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. What BDeBooks is

BDeBooks is a free online library running a separate catalogue for each of its languages. We provide indexing, descriptions and access to available reading and download options. The Site is operated for educational and cultural purposes, to make books findable for readers who cannot easily buy them.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use BDeBooks, or older where the law of your country sets a higher age for using online services or creating an account without a parent's consent. By using the Site you confirm that you meet that age.

3. Free use

BDeBooks is free. There is no payment or subscription required to use the public catalogue. Some site features require a free reader account. We show advertising to cover running costs.

4. Reader accounts

A reader account is optional. If you create one, keep your password to yourself and tell us at mail@bdebooks.com if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what is done through your account. You can ask us to delete your account at any time; we confirm the request with you before deleting it. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

5. What you post

If you post a comment or take part in a book discussion, you keep the rights to what you write. You give BDeBooks a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to show it on the Site, for as long as it stays published. You must not post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or sexually explicit, anything that infringes someone else's rights, advertising or spam, or other people's personal information. Posts are moderated. We may refuse, hide or remove a post that breaks these terms, and we tell you when we remove one of your posts where the law requires it.

6. Conduct

You agree not to:

• use the Site for any unlawful purpose
• upload or share malicious content
• attempt to disrupt the Site, including abusive scraping and exploit attempts
• misrepresent yourself as somebody else
• use bots to download in bulk
• resell, redistribute or commercially exploit a book you download that is still in copyright (a book marked as public domain is free for anyone to reuse)
• reverse engineer the Site or its systems

7. Publishing your book

If you send us a book through the Publish your book form, you confirm that you are its author or hold the rights needed to let us publish it. Sending a proposal does not oblige us to publish it. We review each proposal, and a manuscript file is checked for malware and kept private.

8. Intellectual property

BDeBooks claims ownership of none of the books in any catalogue. A work still in copyright remains the property of its author, translator, publisher or rights holder; a work in the public domain belongs to no one. The Site's own design, text and code belong to BDeBooks. Rights holders can ask us to remove a work through the form on our copyright page or by email.

9. Availability

We do not guarantee that the Site or any particular book will be available at any given time. A book can be withdrawn at any moment, including on a rights holder's request, and we are not obliged to give notice.

10. No warranty

The Site and every book, file and description on it are provided "as is". We work to keep the catalogue accurate, but we do not promise that a description, date, file or translation is complete or free of errors, or that a file will work on every device.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, BDeBooks is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profit or opportunity, arising from your use of the Site or of anything you download from it. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and, where you are a consumer in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, for gross negligence or intent.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using the Site at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms. The sections on what you post, intellectual property, no warranty, limitation of liability and governing law continue to apply after that.

13. Your rights under the law where you live

BDeBooks is used by readers in many countries. Nothing in these terms takes away a protection the law of your country gives you:

• European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland: if you use the Site as a consumer, you have the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country.
• United States: nothing in these terms takes away a right you have under the consumer protection law of your state that cannot be waived by agreement.
• Everywhere else, you keep any right that the law of your country does not allow a contract to remove.

These terms contain no arbitration clause and no waiver of class actions. Before going to court, please write to us first; most problems can be solved by email.

14. Contact point (EU Digital Services Act)

Readers and authorities in the European Union can reach BDeBooks as our single point of contact under Articles 11 and 12 of the Digital Services Act at mail@bdebooks.com, in English or in the language of the catalogue you use. Notices about content you believe is illegal can be sent the same way; copyright notices through the form on our copyright page.

15. Other terms

If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce a term at once, we can still enforce it later. These terms, with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the whole agreement between you and BDeBooks about the Site.

16. Changes

These terms can change. The date at the top of this page is the date of the current version.
