BDeBooks runs six catalogues: Bengali, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German. This page explains how the content on them is chosen, written and corrected.
What we are trying to do
Make books findable. A reader should be able to search for a title, an author or a subject in their own language and land on a page that tells them what the book is and lets them read it.
Where book information comes from
Book pages carry metadata such as title, author, genre, description and cover. It is compiled from publicly available sources and from our own reading. Where a file is hosted by us, it is served through our content delivery network. We do not knowingly host infringing content, and valid notices are actioned through the DMCA page.
Accuracy
We aim to be right about author names, publication years and genre. Where we are unsure, we say so rather than presenting a guess as a fact. For a public domain work, the year we publish is the year of first publication, not the year of the edition we happen to hold, because the two are often decades apart and only one of them is the answer a reader wants.
Descriptions
Descriptions are written by our editors or drawn from publisher metadata with attribution. We do not republish another site's writing as our own, and we do not fill a page with text that says nothing just to have text on it.
Covers
A cover on a public domain book is the cover of the edition that entered the public domain. We do not put a modern publisher's cover art on an old text, because the art carries its own copyright even where the words do not.
Corrections
Anyone can report an error through the Contact page. Corrections are made as quickly as we can confirm them. If you are a rights holder, the DMCA page is the faster route and does not depend on us agreeing with you first.
Each catalogue is its own
The six catalogues are not translations of each other. Each is assembled separately, by people who read that language, so what is popular in one may not appear in another at all.
