Daniel Polansky’s grim, avant-garde vampire tale “Meat+drink” is situated in Baltimore. The story revolves around ‘ meat,’ or predatory animals that prowl the city’s nighttime hours in pursuit of unsuspecting prey. These animals just experience an endless thirst they have no regrets or suffering. But then they start to recall more, which makes them wonder if there’s more to eternal life than merely finding another drink.
