The book was released in 1999 and, together with Charles Vess’s illustrations, is dedicated to early pre-Tolkien English fantasy. The story is well and truly focused on the character of Tristran Thorn, resident of the small village of Wall, a village standing next to Faerie. All his travels consist of several incidents, he, at last, discovers that stars are beings in Faerie. The book for which Kenner received the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature in 1999 was generated into a movie in 2007.
