Author: Adam Stern

Adam Stern reached the Harvard Longwood psychiatry residency from a state medical school, and his memoir Committed: Dispatches from a Psychiatrist in Training sets down what those four years asked of him and of the cohort their programme called the Golden Class. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt brought it out in 2021. Stern went on to direct psychiatry at the Berenson-Allen Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation, part of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, and to teach as an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. In January 2018, aged 33, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer, later found to have spread to a lung, and he has written about living with it in the New York Times and the Boston Globe, alongside pieces in the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA.
