Author: Ahmad Gunny
Ahmad Gunny is a scholar of French literature and European representations of Islam. As a fellow and senior associate of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, he developed research spanning Voltaire, eighteenth-century writing, and changing literary portrayals of the Prophet. Prophet Muhammad in French and English Literature surveys more than three and a half centuries of published and unpublished material, comparing how intellectual, theological, and cultural assumptions shaped those portrayals. The Islamic Foundation issued the study, while Kube Publishing later published an electronic edition. Gunny also edited Voltaire's De l'Alcoran et de Mahomet for the Complete Works of Voltaire and wrote studies including Images of Islam in Eighteenth-Century Writings and Perceptions of Islam in European Writings. His work joins close textual scholarship with cross-cultural literary history.
