Amanda Sellet
Amanda Sellet writes comic fiction for teens and general readers, drawing on her earlier work as a newspaper reporter and her affection for classic books, old films, and verbal sparring. Belittled Women turns Louisa May Alcott's Little Women into the pressure point of a contemporary Kansas family story. High school junior Jo Porter and her sisters perform in their mother's Little Women themed tourist attraction, while Jo longs for an identity and future beyond the role assigned to her. A visiting photojournalist and her son appear to offer escape, but Jo's candid complaints threaten the family enterprise when they become material for an unflattering article. Clarion Books released it during 2022. Sellet's other books include By the Book, Hate to Fake It to You, and the Bethany Clarke mystery novels. Her work favors banter, literary references, and protagonists learning that comedy can expose family tensions without erasing affection or responsibility.
