Andrea Burden

Andrea Burden is an illustrator whose expressive character work helped shape the visual identity of Jan Bozarth’s Fairy Godmother Academy. Birdie’s Book, the first volume in the children’s fantasy sequence, was published by Random House Children’s Books in 2009 with Burden credited for the illustrations. The story follows Birdie Cramer Bright, a girl drawn into the dream realm of Aventurine as she begins training to become a fairy godmother. Burden’s pictures accompany a world built around magical talents, friendship, and young protagonists from varied family backgrounds. She also illustrated later academy volumes, including Kerka’s Book and Zally’s Book, giving the series continuity while each installment centers a different girl. Her role is distinct from Bozarth’s authorship and essential to how the books introduce their enchanted settings and cast. Birdie’s Book therefore represents both the start of Bozarth’s sequence and Burden’s sustained contribution to its imaginative presentation.
