Annemarie Nikolaus
Annemarie Nikolaus is a German writer, journalist, and former psychotherapist whose fiction ranges from historical narratives to short thrillers. Silenced follows journalist Laura Schreiner after her questions about a public disaster expose a possible link to another unresolved event. When her children are threatened, professional inquiry becomes a personal struggle against people able to suppress scrutiny. The short English-language thriller draws its background from theories surrounding an earlier plane crash while presenting its plot as fiction. Editions have appeared through Babelcube and Schreibwerk, including a 2021 paperback. Nikolaus studied psychology, journalism, politics, and history, and began publishing fiction independently after work in psychotherapy, political consulting, and journalism. Her other books include Ustica, Broken Rules, and the reporter-centered Stadtwildnis sequence. Silenced uses its compact length to focus on Laura’s decision between retreat and continued investigation, connecting Nikolaus’s interest in public events with a protagonist trained to follow incomplete evidence under pressure.
