Annie Rains

Annie Rains writes hopeful contemporary romance rooted in North Carolina communities where friendship and family support are as consequential as courtship. The True Love Bookshop follows widow Tess Lane, owner of Lakeside Books and host of a weekly women's book club in Somerset Lake. When Tess begins examining secrets in her late husband's life, private investigator River Harrison helps her seek answers while challenging the certainty with which she has remembered her marriage. Forever's 2022 edition is the third Somerset Lake book. Its bookstore setting lets Rains connect reading with companionship: Tess's customers and friends do not simply provide atmosphere, but help her separate loyalty to the past from permission to build a different future. Laura Darrell and Lucas Dixon narrate the later unabridged Hachette Audio edition. Rains balances grief and romantic possibility without treating either as a quick solution, keeping Tess's decisions centered on trust and self-knowledge.
