Ava Morgyn
Ava Morgyn is a Texas writer of teen fiction and gothic novels shaped by magical elements, grief, family secrets, and atmospheric unease. Albert Whitman & Company published Resurrection Girls in October 2019 as her first widely distributed novel for younger readers. It centers on Olivia Foster, still isolated by her younger brother's drowning, and Kara Hallas, a compelling new neighbor whose family carries an unsettling inheritance. Their friendship and correspondence with condemned prisoners draw Olivia out of numbness while exposing impulses that may be supernatural and dangerous. The novel places mourning and moral uncertainty inside a contemporary coming-of-age story rather than treating magic as an escape from loss. Morgyn followed it with The Salt in Our Blood, another novel aimed at younger readers, before moving into gothic fiction with The Witches of Bone Hill and The Bane Witch. Resurrection Girls introduces recurring qualities in her work: emotionally burdened women, inherited power, dark humor, and ordinary communities disturbed by forces that cannot be explained entirely through realism.
