B.J. Daniels is the working name of Barbara Johnson Heinlein, born in Texas and long settled in Montana, the state nearly all her fiction takes place in. She turned thirty before writing seriously, moving to a newspaper as a feature writer and editor, and sold a short story to Woman's World in 1987. Thirty-five more followed before her first novel, Odd Man Out, reached Harlequin Intrigue in 1995 and drew nominations for Best First Book and Best Intrigue in the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice awards. The same magazine gave her a Career Achievement Award for series romantic suspense in 2002, along with a Reviewers' Choice award for Premeditated Marriage. Her own list has since gone beyond a hundred books. Atonement, from 2014, is the fourth Beartooth, Montana book. Sticking to Her Guns, from 2022, is the second Colt Brothers Investigation, following Tommy Colt and Bella Worthington. Corralled, part of the Chisholm Cattle Company series, was later reissued in a two-in-one paired with Barb Han's Stockyard Snatching.
