Barbara Wallace is a New England romance writer whose route to publication included contest success, extensive revision, and work across different publisher lines. Weekend Agreement began as the manuscript with which she won a Romance Writers of America contest in 2007. After further development, Entangled Publishing released it through the Indulgence imprint in 2012. The novel brings historian Charlotte Doherty to businessman Daniel Moretti because she wants to recover a farm with deep ties to her mother’s family. Daniel proposes a weekend arrangement connected to that request, and their carefully defined terms become harder to maintain as each revises an early judgment of the other. Wallace has described returning to the manuscript after an earlier publisher passed and reshaping it several times before acceptance. That history makes Weekend Agreement a useful example of her disciplined approach to category-length romance: a clear external bargain, two strong professional identities, and emotional change produced through sustained conflict rather than instant certainty.
