Beth White is a Mississippi-born novelist and music teacher whose historical romances are rooted in the culture and contested history of the Gulf Coast. The Creole Princess is the second volume of her Gulf Coast Chronicles, following The Pelican Bride and preceding The Magnolia Duchess. Set in the colonial South during the American Revolution, the novel centers on Lyse Lanier, whose loyalty to her family is complicated by a Spanish stranger engaged in a concealed mission. Revell issued the title in 2015 and classified it across Christian, historical, and romance fiction. White, who taught at an inner-city high school in Mobile, draws on the region's layered French, Spanish, British, African, and Creole histories throughout the series. The Creole Princess combines courtship with political uncertainty, using espionage and shifting allegiance to show how large imperial struggles enter private households. Its place in the trilogy also connects Lyse's choices to a multigenerational portrait of Gulf Coast families.
