Be Healed puts a Catholic sacramental frame around ideas from family therapy, arguing that wounds from childhood shape adult faith and that prayer, confession and the Eucharist are where they are addressed. Bob Schuchts took his doctorate in family relations at Florida State University in 1981, taught there and at Tallahassee Community College, and practised as a marriage and family therapist until he retired from clinical work in December 2014. Ave Maria Press published Be Healed in 2014. He founded the John Paul II Healing Center in Tallahassee, which runs paid conferences, retreats and training on the material in the book, so the teaching and the business that delivers it are the same enterprise. The doctorate is in family relations rather than medicine or psychiatry.
