C.F.E. Black

C.F.E. Black writes epic fantasy for teen readers, building stories around dangerous magic, divided loyalties, and characters forced to choose what they will protect. Scepter of Fire is the third volume in the Scepter and Crown sequence, following Blade of Ash and Crown of Dust. This 2023 installment continues the series' long-form conflict while bringing its political and magical stakes toward a concluding movement. Black's catalog places the trilogy alongside other speculative work, but the Scepter and Crown books provide the clearest view of her interest in inherited power and the cost of leadership. Independent series records identify Scepter of Fire as book three and classify it within fantasy for younger audiences, supporting its role within a connected narrative rather than as a standalone title. For readers approaching C.F.E. Black through this book, the earlier volumes supply essential character and world context, while Scepter of Fire demonstrates her preference for sustained plotting across a complete fantasy sequence.
