Rhiannon Lewis narrates the Sweetpea books, keeps a running list of people she intends to kill, and is very funny about it, which drives the whole series and is also what unsettles readers. Dead Head, published in 2021, is the third, and finds her out of the country on a cruise ship having confessed to all of it, discovering that a new life does not take. Sweetpea and In Bloom came before it and Thorn In My Side after. Skuse wrote for teenagers first, novels including Pretty Bad Things, Rockoholic, Dead Romantic, Monster and The Deviants, and she teaches creative writing as a senior lecturer.
