Cait Marie

Cait Marie moves between romance and fantasy for teenage and college-age audiences, with recurring interests in performance, friendship, and chosen identity. Masking the Love is a Bennu Firebirds short story numbered 1.5 in the sequence. It follows Kade, a college baseball player keeping part of his life private, and a rival pitcher whom he defends from bullying. Friendship develops into romance, but Kade’s fear of being open pressures their bond. Released in 2022, the story sits after Making the Play and before Meeting the Star, while later Bennu books broaden the circle of athletes, performers, and friends. Marie also created the Nihryst fantasy sequence and the Leaving Summersville romances. Her work moves between invented kingdoms and contemporary campuses, repeatedly centering people who question familiar expectations. Baseball rivalry supplies tension in this shorter piece, while honesty and mutual patience carry its emotional arc.
