Cal Orey is an author and journalist whose subjects include companion animals, health, science, relationships, and food. SOULMATES WITH PAWS collects essays and stories about the bonds between people and animals, drawing partly on her nationally published magazine work. AuthorHouse issued the book in 2022. Its range extends from well-known animal lovers such as Doris Day, John Steinbeck, and Charles Schulz to accounts of pets whose senses, loyalty, or routines affect human lives. Orey studied English and creative writing at San Francisco State University. The Healing Powers series and earlier animal-focused work further show her placing personal narrative beside popular reporting across a varied nonfiction career.
