Camille Di Maio
Camille Di Maio builds historical novels around place, family memory, and the choices that redirect ordinary lives. The Memory of Us launched her novel career and takes inspiration from the Beatles song “Eleanor Rigby.” Set around Liverpool and the upheaval of the Second World War, it follows a young woman whose relationship with a Catholic seminarian conflicts with family expectations and the divisions of class and faith. Di Maio moved from an award-winning real-estate career in San Antonio to writing full time, and her later books continue to connect personal histories with distinctive communities. Her background includes political-science study, campaign work, extensive travel, and residence in several American states. The Memory of Us established the historical focus that readers also find in Before the Rain Falls and The Way of Beauty. Through its wartime setting and long emotional consequences, the novel examines love, secrecy, sacrifice, and the way a remembered past can keep shaping identity long after public events have changed.
